Q & A the real
1. Can you explain the gospel to me? Man and woman were created by God, yet they disobeyed and had been destined to an eternity away from Him (a.k.a. hell). Yet...He loved us so much that He sent his only son to come and die for us and redeem us from that. If we choose Jesus to take our consequence for us, accept Him as our savior, and turn from our own selfish ways, He is faithful to redeem us and give us entrance to eternal life with Him. Jesus is coming back for those that have accepted Him and are walking in His ways, that have taken the Bible as a guide. Jesus doesn't expect perfection but does want us to walk in faith, trusting His Word, the Bible and living like He has guided and not how the world accepts.
2. How important is your relationship with Jesus? It is the foundation of my day. I love knowing that this day could be the day Jesus comes. I try to hold it in my heart and in the things I do. I have made many mistakes in life, trusted myself instead of His Word in issues and have failed. I have learned, from experience, that when I choose God, I choose better.
3. What importance does prayer play in your life? I would love to say that I am amazing at talking to God. I am not. I pray during the day, talk to God during my chores, in the car, in the shower, but am not like a lot of people that have their prayer closet and dedicate their time to only pray. As a busy mom, I struggle in this area, but I work on it daily.
4. What is your view on church involvement? I love being part of a team in church. I think it is so important to use your talents to glorify God and help others. I also think some church involvements are to help you become better as a person and can mold you to become a better Christian in general. I have been part of kids ministry teaching, youth ministry in drama and music, praise dance team, prison ministry, and have been in worship teams as a singer and beginner piano player (#fail_lol).
5. What does your personal quiet time look like? It is usually is either at the very early hours or late at night after all the boys are in bed. I usually have all the books open, my Bible, the gazillion highlighters and colored pens, and my phone in case I just can't find an answer. I usually also have instrumental worship music in the background or in earbuds to keep me focused.
6. How do you lead your family spiritually? I lead my family spiritually holding Bible studies in the nights before we sleep. We also pray over our food, before we leave in the car, and at night after the Bible study. Mostly, I like giving the boys a notecard and they write down their prayers and we have them posted on a prayer wall. I think it shows them that we are here for each other and that not one person has a perfect life. I also take them to church weekly so they can also have studies with kids their age.
7. What is your perspective on sharing the gospel? I think we can share it in different ways. I have seen how effective its been to just share straight from the Bible and have God touch their hearts with the truth, and I have also seen how just being like Jesus allows them to be more receptive to seeking God more. I know God uses different ways to reach people and that's what makes me love Him even more. He loves us so much to reach each one of us in a unique and special way.
8. Do you have regular accountability in your life? What does it look like? I have a group of people that keep me motivated to seek God and we encourage each other. One is with my relatives and one is with some friends. I also have my pastor's wife who is amazing, and I can always go to her. She is always sending me Bible studies and links to learn from. We communicate via messages and sometimes we video call.
9. What are the last five spiritual books you’ve read? Spiritual Disciplines for the Christian Life, How to Worship a King, Deliverance and Spiritual Warfare, 5 Hebrew Words that Every Christian Should Know, The Love Dare for Parents
10. What is your favorite book in the Bible and why? I really like Luke. I like how straight forward he is and very factual. He was a doctor so he wrote like a professional and the chronological view is always nice to see the order of events. Luke also wrote Acts which tells us about the beginning of the church so that is always exciting. That's where we were born so it's a pretty big deal.
11. Who is your spiritual hero and why? My spiritual hero in real life is my grandmother. She was not super religious but she taught me the essence of God's existence and how we can go to Him for anything and everything. My Bible hero is Hannah. I loved seeing her seek God for her miracle even though it took a long time for her to get it. In response, she didn't take the child and become consume by him, not even close. Instead, she dedicated Samuel to God demonstrating that she loved God above all. It really gives me a sense of what my actions should be when God answers my prayers. I should at all times give the glory to Him and dedicate each part of my life to honor Him.
12. What is your testimony? I was raised by my grandmother who taught me God was everywhere and if I was ever scared, all I had to do was talk to Him. I remember at the age of 6 or 7, standing at the entrance of a cathedral in downtown Matamoros, Mexico and seeing women in a small room praying to statues of Jesus. I can still smell the incense, hear the cries, see the lights. I remember then looking up at the sky and asking God, How can a God so big be in a little box? Who are you, really? And there began my journey to find out who God was. Teenage years were spent visiting churches I was invited to, sometimes my parents would take me on Easter Sunday one year, and I even rode on a church bus during a time a church van came to our neighborhood. At the age of 18, when I had forgotten about me seeking, I arrived at a church with my mom. She had been having issues and we went to accompany her. I don't remember the preaching nor the songs. I remember being at the altar and telling God, Look at everything that's going for me. In turn, a still voice said, You can have it all but if you don't have Me, you have nothing. And I collapsed, crying and knowing He was right and He was the One I had looked for all this time. I had found Jesus. He had been there all along.
13. What is your ideal church to attend? There is no ideal church, unless you're the ideal person. Church is really just a building of imperfect people looking to learn more about a perfect God that has loved so much even before we were born. Someone once told me that they would never step into a church because it was full of fake people. I think they were right. We are fakers, we fake it till we make it. We don't have it all together nor will we ever but we try each day to follow the guidance of God for our lives and those around us. God knows exactly who you are and your heart. The Bible recommends we get together with others that are trying just like you.
14. What is your understanding of biblical womanhood? A woman's role in the Bible was first seen in Eve. We see she was made as a companion for a man. We see that she is the nurturer, bearer of children, and one that is there for her partner. Ephesians 5:33 calls a woman to respect her husband. Proverbs 31 shows the attributes of a woman that takes care of her family, is wise, is hardworking, and is handy. Most good woman that the Bible talks about, are respected, kind, compassionate, and thinking of others first.
15. What is your understanding of biblical manhood? The first man in the Bible is stated to not be a good idea for him to be alone. He is a leader, has wisdom, and makes the choices for the household. He provides for his household physically, emotionally, and mentally as a guide to seek God. Ephesians 5:25 calls the man to love his wife. It is his responsibility to be the ultimate leader of the home.
16. Do you have any interest in working in ministry? If so, what specifically? I love working in ministry because the Bible in James 1:17 states that talents and gifts are important for God's kingdom. Meaning that you have something special that will help others. It's as if we all have this special spark that will ignite others. I've worked with kids a lot since it's really easy for me. I find it at times, effortless. I also have worked with praise dance, dramas, choirs, and worship teams. The one ministry that really captures my heart is worship. Not the mic part or being in front. It's the worship I do in secret with God, that later translated to worship to guide others. It's like when I've been to a really amazing place, and then I go take some friends and, I am so excited to share the journey to that location. And I am telling them all about it, so anxious for them to get there...that's worship to me. Being part of that journey so that they can have that special moment with God is priceless.
17. How important is entertainment in your life (movies, TV, video games, social media, etc.)? I think entertainment is a way to communicate God's message to others using different methods. I like how we can literally go around the world in seconds, spreading the gospel and good news. I think it can be used as a great tool or it can really be a factor to distract you from the things that are most important.
18. What are your views on health and exercise? I didn't give it much thought before. My mentality has really changed in the past years. I heard a preaching asking, If we are a temple of God, how are your pillars? your maintenance? Your finances? etc. and it really hit me hard.
19. What is your perspective on finances and debt? This is completely biblical. God requires tithes and they have a promise behind them. I know the Bible says in many verses about being wise and not being in debt because then you are a slave to the debtor. It is completely true and it is something I am working on being more financially educated. I was not taught that and want to leave something for my grandkids. Proverbs 13:22 says that a good man leaves inheritance to his children's children.
20. What kind of legacy do you want to leave? I want to leave a hope that one day we will meet again. I want my kids to always remember that no matter happened, mom never stopped seeking God. I want them to remember our talks, our studies, the mission they have, and the purpose God has placed in their heart. My prayer is that even after I am gone, my children will continue to worship, to learn, to seek the Lord every day of their lives and that they will raise families that will proclaim the name of Jesus forever.
